Spread lighting is the use of low- level stem mounted luminaries with a hat or shield on top to provide a glare-free effect. Usually creates a circular pool of light for a path, step, terrace or area of low planting. Fully shielded luminaries work best to reduce glare. However, partially shielded fixtures may be positioned in deeper foliage landscapes where the additional light will serve to backlight greenery.

Spread lighting may also be used underwater to enhance an ornamental pond. It is one of the outdoor lighting techniques. Like path lighting, it illuminates ground areas of interest including paths. Spread lighting illuminates small shrubberies, ground cover and garden walkways with a smooth, uniform, non-glare pattern.

Spread lighting use low-level light with a hat to provide a glare-free pool of light for areas of low planting. If you've invested in landscaping your garden with flowerbeds and low shrubs, you'll want to enhance its night time appeal with spread lighting. Carefully hidden in low lying landscaping and ground cover, your focus will be on the beauty of the variety of textures and patterns of your plants rather than on the source of the light. Spread lighting highlights flower beds, low shrubs and other landscaping at night. It is used for illuminating ground cover and low shrubberies. It would bring out the dazzling colors at night for a more stunning effect.

Highlight the areas of interest to focus attention on those special plants which are your pride and joy. Walkway lamps or moonlights are positioned to illuminate low-lying landscaping and ground cover. Spread lighting uses wide beam angles to light larger features such as lawn areas, flowerbeds and borders and low shrubs. The light produced from well positioned spread lighting makes strolling around a garden in the late evening very pleasurable, allowing many different plants to be seen and highlighting the landscape of the garden.

Spread Lighting use circular patterns of light to illuminate flowers and low shrubs from above. Use spread fixtures. Hiding lights in low-lying landscaping and ground cover causes the lighting to spread which emphasizes the textures and patterns of the plants.
